I agree with the author that Ashley Fruno acted out of compassion for helpless animals. I don't believe for a moment that Ashley Fruno acted for personal gain. And I've found that even young children can understand that certain actions cause pain and suffering to animals, and most of them want to do something about it. Although I would not encourage extreme measures for children, I do encourage compassion in them by suggesting that they volunteer at shelters, donate to animal causes and to make wise, cruelty-free purchases.

One of the best ways to learn how to make cruelty-free purchases is PETA-sponsored website at CaringConsumer.com. The website lists companies, including cosmetics manufacturers, that do not test on animals. And you can download a cruelty-free pocket guide to take along with you when you're shopping. I find it really helpful . . .
